Privacy Policy

About the Challenge

This website is the official site (the “Site”) of the National STEM Video Game Challenge (the “Video Game Challenge” or the "Challenge"). This Privacy Policy is effective as of September 12, 2011. If we make changes related to privacy, we will revise this Privacy Policy to reflect the changes. We'll post the updated version here, and we'll notify you if we think the changes will significantly impact the treatment of information you have already provided.

The Video Game Challenge is sponsored by the Entertainment Software Association, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and AMD in collaboration with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center (“Cooney Center”) and E-line Media (collectively the “Sponsor(s)” or "We"). The Video Game Challenge aims to engage students in STEM (Science, Technology, Math and Engineering), 21st Century Literacy Skills and Systems Thinking.

Information You Provide

When a Video Game Challenge Applicant registers for an account on the Site, the Applicant must provide certain personally identifiable information, namely a birthdate. This birthdate is used solely to determine the Applicant's age and is not stored in our system.

If the Applicant provides a birthdate that indicates they are over the age of 13, we also ask for the applicant's email address. If the Applicant provides a birthdate that indicates they are under 13, we ask for a parent or guardian's email address. Any email addresses we collect are then stored in our system in a secure manner.

Should an Applicant be deemed eligibile to win a prize in the Video Game Challenge, they may be required to provide additional signed consents and releases which will be provided to them at that time.

How We Use This Information

We use the email address an Applicant provides to contact them in order to confirm and activate their account, provide customer service, send the Applicant Challenge updates and information and to contact the Applicant in the event that the Applicant is judged eligible to receive a prize. If the Applicant is under the age of 13, we use this email address to obtain parent/guardian consent for the Applicant to participate in the Challenge and to contact the parent under the aforementioned circumstances.

We will not use this email address for any other purposes and will never share it with any third party.

Opting Out

At an Applicant's request, we will remove all of their personally identifiable information from our system and permanently remove them from participation in the Challenge. You may send us such a request using one of the contact methods described below.
