Gaming: Principles of Game Design

In Principles of Game Design students play and analyze a variety of games, exploring their structure, how they are played, and how the game’s visual environment affects the play. For their unit project, students work in teams to design a "race to the finish" game. They’ll set player experience goals, player objectives, outline the game-play, and design the user interface.

Students create a playable prototype of their game, using pen and paper or other craft materials, and then playtest their game with other teams. Based on their feedback, they revise their game concept, and use simple programming software to create their game.
